LPP’s social responsibility – Activities for Bangladesh
LPP is becoming an ever more conscious and responsible organisation; therefore, in line with our self-imposed commitment to operate an open communication policy, we would like to inform you about our CSR activities. These activities include primarily the recently undertaken initiatives to improve the safety and working conditions at factories in Bangladesh.
- Since signing the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh, we have applied for an audit of over 100 factories making our clothing. This includes the factory run by New Generation Fashion Ltd described in the recent report by Clean Clothes Polska (“Thin Veil over Wear”, original title: “Grubymi nićmi szyte”).
- Additionally, in April 2014 alone we have carried out internal audits of 50 factories in Bangladesh. We are still analysing the results but we can already state that we have reduced the number of factories we cooperate with.
- Our new audit office in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, will open in the beginning of 2015. We are now undertaking and carrying our formal and legal activities related to our operations in this market. Moreover, the recruitment process for our new office is still open.
- We have developed stricter procedures for initiating cooperation with new providers. As of this June, each new factory must be appropriately verified before it receives our first orders. The purpose of this is to inspect the working standards at our providers’ sites. In the beginning of June, we initiated an audit of the first 10 new factories. We will stop cooperating with any factory that – should it fail to meet the standards – does not follow up with our corrective plan and implement the proposed solutions.
We will keep you up to date on any new corporate social responsibility activities undertaken by LPP.
