LPP has endorsed the scientists’ appeal #SorryNieTakiMamyKlimat!

LPP has joined the climate appeal of Polish scientists and WWF Poland. The company partnered with other representatives of national business in the joint initiative organized under the slogan #SorryNieTakiMamyKlimat! By signing the letter to intensify environmental protection, the company reaffirmed its commitment and consistency in pursuing climate neutrality, which it intends to achieve by 2050.

In April 2022, over 100 Polish scientists signed the Climate Appeal, prepared jointly with WWF Poland. The initiative under the slogan #SorryNieTakiMamyKlimat! involved experts and representatives of leading universities and institutions that deal with environmental change on a daily basis. In a letter addressed to politicians, local governments, citizens and businesses, they stressed the need to follow the voice of science and take immediate action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The signatories appeal to:

  • politicians – to take decisive action leading to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, a transition to clean energy, climate protection, and biodiversity protection;
  • to local governments – to work on energy efficiency and prepare for events such as heat waves, droughts, floods, and severe weather events;
  • to businesses – to calculate their carbon footprint, lower it, and ultimately achieve climate neutrality;
  • to citizens – to make wise choices at the store shelves.

As a pro-climate change leader in the Polish apparel industry, LPP is responding to this appeal. Along with other representatives of responsible business in Poland, the company has endorsed the demands voiced in the scientists’ letter, while reaffirming its earlier commitments contained in LPP’s sustainable development strategy, most notably a 15% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2025, as well as a declaration to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.

While taking ambitious steps to reduce its carbon footprint, the company has recently, among other things, completed the preparation of a decarbonization strategy, which was submitted for review to SBTi – a global organization that supports private companies in their transition to a carbon-free economy. Thanks to the assessment in line with SBTi methodology, which reflects the latest climate science, the actions included in the decarbonization strategy will gain effectiveness and be in line with the Paris Agreement which indicates limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
