Polish fashion industry with recommendations from the Sustainable Fashion Team of the UN Global Compact Network Poland
LPP took part in the latest meeting of the Roundtable of the Sustainable Fashion Team established by the UN Global Compact Network Poland. The participants summarised their ongoing cooperation since April 2022 and announced a common position towards EU regulations and recommendations for the Polish fashion industry supporting companies in an effective green transformation.
Established in April 2022 by the UN Global Compact Network Poland, the Sustainable Fashion Team brought together more than 70 business representatives and experts from the fashion industry. The main objective of the initiative was to respond to the challenges facing the textile and clothing sectors in the context of climate change and to develop concrete solutions for the development of the clothing sector towards circular and responsible fashion. The result of almost two years of exchanging knowledge and experience is the team’s position towards EU regulations and 10 recommendations concerning the Polish fashion sector, published at the last meeting of the Roundtable.
– The announcement by the European Commission in March 2022 of a strategy for circular and sustainable textiles provided the impetus to take action to bring the rules of the Polish clothing business in line with international standards. I am convinced that the implementation of the guidelines developed as part of the Roundtable will ensure the protection of consumers, improve product safety and quality, but also promote innovation in our industry – says Ewa Janczukowicz-Cichosz, sustainability expert at LPP, the company’s representative at the meetings of the Roundtable for Sustainable Fashion.
The recommendations developed by the Sustainable Fashion Team of the UN Global Compact Network Poland cover four key areas for the effective transformation of the sector and the implementation of solutions ensuring respect for the principles of sustainable development. They concern issues related to, for example, the standardisation of Polish and international regulations on closing the clothing cycle, support and promotion of technologies and business models based on the idea of fashion circularity, as well as information and education of consumers in this area or ensuring equal conditions for competition between the local industry and entities from outside the European Union.
