Fashion for culture. LPP supports an exhibition of works by Andrew Umiastowski
LPP assumes patronage of another exhibition. On 5 September, the State Art Gallery in Sopot hosted a private view of an exhibition of works by Andrzej Umiastowski, an outstanding and distinguished artist based in Pomorskie.
The exhibition in the State Art Gallery in Sopot includes dozens of oil paintings by Andrzej Umiastowski, created between 1995 and 2024. It offers a special opportunity to take a close look at Uniatowski’s works to see how he keeps an eye on the world around him in an exceptionally stylish and benevolent way. Collectors and critics alike see him as an artist with a gift for portraying human sensitivity. While the stories in the paintings address commonplace issues, they are nonetheless, or perhaps precisely because of this, memorable.
The private viewing was attended by several hundred people, including Magdalena Czarzyńska-Jachim, Mayor of Sopot, and Władysław Zawistowski, Director of the Department of Culture in the Marshal’s Office of the Pomorskie Voivodeship, who presented an award to Andrzej Umiastowski on behalf of the Marshal.
– Andrzej Umiastowski from Sopot is a renowned and acclaimed artist. The world from his paintings is friendly, heartwarming and full of sensitivity. These paintings are a true pleasure to look at. This is why I am immensely glad that we can show so many of his works in the State Art Gallery. I encourage everyone to visit the exhibition – says Magdalena Czarzyńska-Jachim, mayor of Sopot.
The event’s partner is LPP, the largest clothing manufacturer in Central Europe. The company has extended its patronage to the Sopot exhibition as part of its efforts to foster social initiatives and build a friendly, open and creative environment in Pomorskie.
– Following the first successful exhibition in the Sopot Museum, which we supported in June this year, we resolved to continue our efforts in the area of culture and the arts. This time has been a kind of test for us, as our cooperation on the exhibition of works by Andrzej Umiastowski has involved not only financial, but also organisational and marketing support. Working with the artist and the State Art Gallery has been an extraordinary experience for us. The high attendance at the private view, the positive reactions and the considerable media coverage show clearly that bringing business and culture together yields good results – says Sławomir Ronkowski, director of brand communication and social relations at LPP.
Andrzej Umiastowski was born in Sopot in 1956. In 1984, he obtained a degree in painting with honours from the State Higher School of Visual Arts in Gdańsk (now the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk). Throughout four decades of creative work, he has had more than 130 solo exhibitions in prestigious galleries and museums in Europe and the United States. His impressive oeuvre comprises more than three and a half thousand oil paintings, found in collections all over the world. The artist has long had links not only with the Tricity, but also with France, where he has worked with Alain Duronsoy, an esteemed art dealer, for more than thirty years now. He currently lives and works in a Kashubian village near his native Sopot.
– Presenting art needs support from the business sector, and I am delighted that LPP has been involved in my exhibition. Marek Piechocki, whom I have known for many years and who has my paintings in his collection, did not hesitate to put financial and personal resources into this project. I am very positively surprised by how well this collaboration has worked and by how extensive the publicity surrounding the exhibition in the State Art Gallery in Sopot has been. The strong LPP team has seen to every detail. This is invaluable support – says Andrzej Umiastowski.
The exhibition of works by Andrzej Umiastowski is open until 6 October 2024 in the State Art Gallery in Sopot. Until 29 September, you can also visit the “Fashion of the Romantic Era in Travel and Resort (1820-1850)” exhibition in the Sopot Museum.
