#LPPpomaga in the second wave of the pandemic The support worth PLN 1.2 million will go to hospitals in Pomerania and Małopolska

LPP, the Polish clothing company, has yet again addressed the needs of the medical facilities fighting the second wave of the pandemic. The Company decided to continue the in-kind and financial support in Pomerania and Małopolska. As part of this year’s – second one already – edition of the #LPPpomaga, the Gdańsk-based producer will donate clothing for the personnel, as well as funds necessary to purchase the key equipment. Under the current initiative, the company will allocate over PLN 1.2 million to support the health service.

In connection with the rapidly growing second wave of the COVID-19 disease, the Gdańsk-based company has decided to continue the #LPPpomaga campaign. The company has become involved in supporting medical facilities, focusing on the regions where its headquarters are located. Nine hospitals will receive in-kind and financial assistance – five in Gdańsk, one in Kościerzyna in Pomerania and three in Kraków. Efficient coordination of activities on the LPP’s side and donation system is ensured by the LPP Foundation team.

– When the number of coronavirus patients in our country started to increase again and it became clear that we are dealing with a second wave of the pandemic in Poland, we immediately took action. We contacted the hospitals directly and checked at source what the urgent needs were, what would be the most effective way to deal with the pressing needs. With each of the institutions, we individually agreed on the form and scope of support. It turned out that apart from funds for equipment, clothes for protective suits will also prove useful – sells Patrycja Zbytniewska, President of the LPP Foundation.

The company will donate 20 thousand new clothes to medical personnel who work in protective suits on a daily basis. Clothes with a total value of PLN 800 thousand come from the current offer of Reserved, House and Cropp brands. Clothing, including mainly tracksuits, underwear or shirts, will be intended for employees who come into contact with patients with SARS-CoV-2 and wear such items under protective overalls. They will also be used by other hospital staff. The clothes have already been delivered to four medical centres: the University Clinical Centre in Gdańsk, the Specialist Hospital in Kościerzyna, Pomeranian Hospitals (the Polish Red Cross Maritime Hospital in Gdynia, F. Ceynowa Specialist Hospital in Wejherowo, St. Vincent a Paulo Hospital in Gdynia, the Pomeranian Centre for Infectious Diseases and Tuberculosis in Gdańsk), and Polanki Children’s Hospital in Gdańsk.

– LPP has supported our hospital for several years. Earlier, thanks to the company’s involvement, new medical practices for Cystic Fibrosis patients have been created and day rooms for children got renovated. When in March our country faced the enormous challenge of the new virus pandemic, LPP immediately rushed to help by providing our facility with personal protective equipment in the form of masks and overalls. Also in the autumn, with the second wave of the disease, the company offered us clothes for the doctors involved in the fight against the pandemic. LPP’s assistance is invaluable. We are grateful for the support in the daily battle for the health of our children, not only those suffering from SARS-CoV-2, but also those struggling with other dangerous diseases. We are very pleased that we can consider LPP as one of the hospital’s tried and tested friends – says Małgorzata Paszkowicz, the President of the Polanki Children’s Hospital named after Maciej Płażyński in Gdańsk.

Apart from the in-kind aid for medical workers, the hospitals can also count on financial support. The funds transferred to the facilities are allocated for the purchase of necessary equipment or personal protective equipment, according to the demand submitted to LPP.

– The financial support for the purchase of specific equipment allows for quick action and guarantees effective use of money by the management boards of medical institutions that know best the needs of the departments and the medical market. This way, in Gdańsk, Pomeranian Hospitals will be provided with infusion pumps and pulse oximetres, and Copernicus Hospitals (the Nicolaus Copernicus Hospital in Gdańsk, St. Adalbert’s Hospital in Gdańsk and the Regional Oncology Centre in Gdańsk), the 7th Naval Hospital and the Specialist Hospital in Kościerzyna will purchase personal protective equipment such as masks and overalls. It turned out that for University Clinical Centre, on the other hand, rubber surgical-type boots were necessary – enumerates Patrycja Zbytniewska.

As part of the autumn edition of the #LPPpomaga action, the company also donated PLN 25 thousand to the Children’s Hospital in Polanki for the purchase of antigen tests for hospital employees. Soon, thanks to the funds provided by the company, the facility will also purchase a stationary ventilator for the Anaesthesiology and Intensive Medical Care Ward.

The same, individually agreed financial assistance will also be provided to three hospitals in Kraków covered by the action: the J. Dietl Specialist Hospital in Kraków will purchase equipment for high-flux therapy, the University Hospital will purchase 30 helmets for non-invasive therapy and the University Children’s Hospital, which will use the donation to purchase pulse oximeters.

– Medical equipment in every hospital is always worth its way in gold. That is why it is so important to be able to use the financial aid received to cater for our current needs. Now, in the era of a pandemic, one of the most important equipment is pulse oximetry, for the purchase of which we will use the donation received from the Polish clothing company LPP. We are glad that the company has also thought about our staff and has provided our doctors and nurses with over 900 sets of cotton clothes, so much needed in the everyday work of hospital staff. Especially now, in the era of disposable overalls and the need to change clothes frequently, such support is very important for our hospital – says Katarzyna Pokorna-Hryniszyn, spokesperson of the University Children’s Hospital in Kraków.

In addition to helping medical facilities, as part of the #LPPpomaga action, the company, in cooperation with Copernicus Hospital and SoStay Hotel, run by the Gdańsk Foundation for Social Innovation, has prepared a thousand energy packages for Pomeranian medical rescue workers. The sets are to help them survive long hours of work in ambulances.

As part of the current action to support the health service in combating the effects of the pandemic, the total value of in-kind and financial aid provided by LPP Foundation will exceed PLN 1.2 million.
